According to Recycling Works MA, each residential students wastes approximately 141.75 lbs of food each year. Food waste is not only responsible for heightened GHG emissions, but is costly for food service providers, universities, and students alike.

Join University Dining, the Office of Sustainability, and the Student Society for Sustainability for "Weigh the Waste." From noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29, faculty, staff and students will be tracking the amount of plate waste that is created in both of our residential dining halls, Fox and South Dining Commons. Weigh the Waste events help students, and the university dining team, find learn more about how we can limit waste in our residential dining facilities. Keep an eye out for more Weigh the Waste events throughout the semester!

If you are interested in volunteering for this event, or opportunities to get involved with food waste reduction on campus, please reach out to: annie_conway@uml.edu.
