To kick off the new semester, National Chemistry Week and to showcase our new Sustainable Chemistry Doctoral Program and Undergraduate Option, the department of Chemistry at UML is hosting its inaugural research symposium Friday, October 18, 2024, (9 a.m.-4 p.m.) in ETIC Perry Atrium, North Campus!

Keynotes made by the Father of Green Chemistry himself, and former UML professor, John C. Warner, Ph.D.; the world's first Green Chemistry Ph.D. from UMass Boston, and executive director of Beyond Benign, Amy Cannon, Ph.D.; and professor Ariel Furst , Ph.D., from Massachusetts Institute of Technology showcasing their electrochemical, biological, and materials engineering tools to study electron transfer at abiotic-biotic interfaces which applies learnings to develop technologies to improve human and environmental health equity.

Additionally, the symposium will showcase the research being conducted in our own University from professors and students through poster presentations and talks. Joel Tickner, Ph.D. (Professor, Public Health, Executive Director Change Chemistry), James Reuther, Ph.D. (Associate Professor of Chemistry); Michael Ross, Ph.D. (Assistant Professor of Chemistry); Margaret Sobkowicz-Kline, Ph.D., (Professor of Plastics Engineering).

The day will conclude with an industry panel where industry professionals from all over will discuss the importance of embracing green and sustainable chemistry principles to work, research and academia and how this will enable you to become a better suited applicant in a competitive job market. Participants will be encouraged to ask questions and network.

Participants are requested to register.  Registration will conclude by October 11, 2024.

Lunch is provided to registrants. Optional: Students can sign up to present a poster (finite positions available, first-come, first-serve) and/or participate in a small essay contest. There will be prizes and giveaways.
