In an effort to shrink our carbon footprint and save money for the university, UMass Lowell leadership is asking for community participation in reducing energy usage during the summer months.
Across all buildings, please help reduce energy costs by taking these small measures before departing offices:
- Turn off all lights
- Close windows and lower blinds, shades and curtains
- In lab spaces, please close all lab hood sashes not in use
- Shutdown and unplug unused electrical equipment around your workspace, including: computers, speakers, printers, copy machines, desk lights, cell phone, and miscellaneous chargers, microwaves and coffee pots
For the week of July 4th, certain buildings on campus will be affected by our energy savings efforts. See a list of those buildings (pdf).
This is also an important season for finding time to get away from the office, refresh and recharge. Taking vacation time is essential for maintaining strong mental health and also alleviates stress on the university’s balance sheet. So, in coordination with your supervisors, please do your part this summer and go have fun! You’ve more than earned it.
