Over the past year and a half, the world - and higher education as a field - has experienced great upheaval with the growth of artificial intelligence. The Faculty Senate, in collaboration with the Provost's Office and Academic Technology, has convened a Task Force to help address the way this issue is impacting our campus.

The Senate AI Task Force has developed a brief survey aimed at gauging the awareness of artificial intelligence and readiness within our community. We encourage participation from students, faculty, and staff across all departments to ensure that we can tailor resources, programming, and professional development to meet the unique needs of our campus.

Please take a few minutes to complete this anonymous survey. By sharing your thoughts and experiences, you will provide valuable insights that will shape UMass Lowell’s efforts to prepare and support our campus community to manage AI’s impact on education and research.

The Task Force is working on an AI website to address the many uses (and misuses) of this new technology. We'll let you know when that has been developed. In the meantime, the CELT website has some new resources addressing AI in the classroom that may be of use. (Click on the link and then scroll down to "ChatGPT and Artificial Intelligence).

Thank you for your participation and continued engagement in this critical initiative. Please return your responses by April 5.
