Please join the Lowell Center for Space Science and Technology on Thursday, March 28 from 11 a.m.-noon for the talk "High-Impact Outreach: Methods to effectively bring research to wider audiences" by Claire Lamman, Center for Astrophysics, Harvard and Smithsonian.

Abstract:
Many scientists value science communication, but also value their time. Creative outreach strategies can boost the ratio of impact to invested time. I’ll describe what I’ve learned from my experiences of sharing my personal research in cosmology and amplifying that of my collaboration, the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument. These efforts span a wide range of impact and include: observatory open houses, paper annotations, press releases, data visualization, a global planetarium film, and, most popularly, astronomy-themed cakes. I hope to facilitate a discussion about the merits of different outreach strategies and ideas for increasing the reach of our science.

Short bio:
Claire Lamman is an observational cosmologist working with Daniel Eisenstein and the DESI Survey (Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument).
