Do you know someone who is making an outstanding difference on campus and should be honored for their exceptional dedication to students? Consider nominating them, or yourself, for one of eight UMass Lowell Faculty Excellence Awards. To learn all details about each award and evaluation criteria and to apply, please refer to the Faculty Excellence Awards website.

Applications will be accepted through March 25, 2024.

  • Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching
    This award honors faculty contributions to undergraduate-level instruction. The university recognizes the distinctive qualities that guide excellence when working with undergraduate students.
  • Award for Excellence in Graduate Teaching
    This award honors faculty contributions to graduate-level instruction. The university recognizes the distinctive qualities that guide excellence when working with master’s and doctoral students.
  • Award for Excellence in Online Teaching
    This award honors faculty contributions to online instruction. The university recognizes the distinctive qualities that guide excellence when teaching online and working with online students.
  • Award for Excellence in Teaching by an Adjunct Faculty Member
    This award honors individual adjunct faculty members who exemplify a deep commitment to excellence in teaching. UMass Lowell prides itself on outstanding teaching and recognizes the efforts made by adjunct faculty to make their classes engaging and to enhance learning outcomes.
  • Award for Excellence in Mentoring RHSA Students
    This award recognizes the exceptional service of one faculty member who has made major contributions in the area of mentoring first-generation college students in the River Hawk Scholars Academy.
  • Award for Excellence in Mentoring Honors College Students
    This award recognizes the exceptional service of one faculty member who has made major contributions in the area of mentoring students in Honors College at UMass Lowell on their theses and projects.
  • Award for Faculty Excellence in Promoting Diversity, Equity and Inclusion 
    This award recognizes exemplar faculty who work collaboratively to build a more diverse, inclusive and equitable climate at UMass Lowell. The University is committed to creating and maintaining a diverse and inclusive learning and working environment that nurtures the growth and development of our learners, faculty, and staff.
  • New: Award for Faculty Excellence in Community Engagement
    This award recognizes outstanding faculty accomplishments that demonstrate community collaboration, institutional impact and deeply engaged, high-quality learning.

2024 Award process timeline:

  • Feb. 20: Application portal opens
  • March 25: Applications deadline
  • March 24-April 11: Faculty Excellence Committee applications review
  • End of April: Announcement of winners

Note: A faculty member may apply for up to two awards per year.

The Faculty Excellence Awards Committee embraces and celebrates diversity in all its forms and encourages individuals from underrepresented populations to apply or to nominate others for these awards.
