I am pleased to announce that Partha Chowdhury has been appointed the new Head of the School of Graduate Studies at UMass Lowell. While serving as interim head, Partha led the team tasked with visioning and planning for the establishment of the School of Graduate Studies. He will lead the formation of the school (with an anticipated launch date of August 1, 2024) and will focus on enhancing graduate student services and professional development, increasing graduate enrollment, promoting inclusivity in graduate programs, and growing the team tasked with implementing these ideas and initiatives.

Partha has over 28 years of academic experience at UMass Lowell, including roles as a professor of physics, a department chair, and the director of the Radiation Laboratory. His externally funded research program - with more than $11M in sponsored research - focuses on gamma-ray spectroscopy and nuclear structure. His work has been widely published in top journals.

An internal search for an associate head/dean for the School of Graduate Studies will commence early this semester, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2024. Additional details about that position and application instructions will be announced soon.

Please join me in congratulating Partha on his new position.
