The 27th annual Student Research and Community Engagement Symposium will be held at University Crossing on Tuesday, April 2, 2024! This university-wide event showcases the research, service learning projects, study abroad experiences, creative works and other academic endeavors of UML undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students.

This year, we are excited to announce the return of poster presentations as an option for student participation. Students must choose between an oral presentation or poster presentation.

Students participating in the oral presentation track are asked to submit a video of no more than 3 minutes presenting their project for the first round of the competition. Videos will be available on YouTube for a period of public viewing and voting. Thereafter, a team of judges designated by each college dean will select finalists from their college to continue to the final round, a live oral presentation in front of a panel of judges at the Student Symposium. Participants may elect to participate in Round 1 only; they will be considered for the Fan Favorite category.

Students participating in the poster presentation track are asked to submit a 36” (width) X 24” (height) poster. All poster presenters will present to multiple judges and other attendees on the day of the Student Symposium.

The number of winners from each college will be proportional to the number of submissions. Each college will award at least one undergraduate and one graduate student or team as winners for both tracks. In addition, each college will recognize at least one “Fan Favorite” winner based on the number of likes on YouTube, attendee feedback and input from judges.

The first step for students to enter the competition is to submit an abstract (up to 250 words) using the online abstract submission form before the deadline on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 11:59 p.m. Please consider submitting an abstract as soon as possible as space may be limited for poster presentations.
