Speaker: Debashis Sahoo, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Department of Pediatrics and Computer Science & Engineering, University of California San Diego
Debashis Sahoo received his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Stanford University. After receiving NIH Pathway to Independence K99/R00 Award, Sahoo joined UCSD in 2013. Dr. Sahoo pioneered identifying simple Boolean relationships between gene expression values and his research has produced impacts in understanding several biological systems including B cell differentiation, colon-bladder-prostate cancers and inflammatory bowel disease. He identified the expression level of CDX2 as a predictive biomarker for a favorable response to conventional chemotherapy among stage II colon cancer patients published in NEJM, 2016. Sahoo has received several grants and awards, including the DOD Prostate Cancer Training Award, Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network Young Investigator Award, R01 from NIH/NIGMS, and NIAID translational grants from NCATS.
