The Office of Research and Innovation is pleased to announce the new Office of Research Development (ORD). The ORD provides strategic activities to support the research, scholarship, and creative activity of the campus community, including helping them pursue funding and awards, offering professional development opportunities, and promoting their research successes.

  1. Proposal development
    Managing proposal preparation projects, especially large multidisciplinary efforts
    Advising about funding opportunities and partners, and facilitating connections
    Providing competitive intelligence, including researching funder priorities and analyzing prior awardees and their team structures
    Reviewing and providing feedback about proposal documents
  2. Programs that support the research community
    Providing internal funding opportunities
    Managing the limited submissions process for the university
    Engaging with UML Centers and Institutes
    Nominating researchers for honorific awards
    Supporting student/postdoc employment opportunities in research development
  3. Capacity building through training, workshops, and events
    Providing trainings based on faculty needs and interest to expand their knowledge and expertise
    Supporting new and mid-career faculty in their career trajectory
    Hosting events to support interdisciplinary research engagement and recognition

The ORD team consists of four members:

  • Daniel Riechers, Ph.D. – Director of Research Development
  • Bethann Valentine, Ph.D. – Research Development Specialist
  • Sofia D’Ambrosio, Ph.D. – Research Development Specialist
  • Eric Si – Research Communications and Events Specialist
