A group of musicians from UML will be playing a set of classic Salsa music at the Lowell Hispanic & Latinx Festival on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 2 p.m. at North Common Park. The group is directed by Visiting Lecturer Charles Gabriel, and includes Professor & Music Department Chair Barry Long on trumpet, with current undergrads Nicole Banks, Sophia Cavalcante & Victoria Santiago (vocals), Carson Moore (percussion) and Quinn McCarron (saxophone). They will be joined by Music Department alumni Christopher Rubén Winters (voice, tres, guitar), Joey Hartigan (percussion) and Andrew Collins (trombone), along with special guests, pianist Rebeca Cline and percussionist Rohan Elkins. This performance is sponsored by the FAHSS Dean's Office.
UMass Lowell junior Alejandra Zambrano of Fitchburg, a biology/pre-veterinary major who is originally from Peru, will perform a traditional Peruvian dance, Marinera Norteña.
The Office of Multicultural Affairs and Latin American Student Association will be tabling at the event.
The university is a sponsor for this event.
