The Emerging Scholars Program is very pleased to welcome Christopher Carlsmith, Professor of History, and Elissa Johnson-Green, Associate Professor of Music, to the Emerging Scholars Faculty Leadership Team. The Emerging Scholars Program is a competitive opportunity for students in the College of Fine Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (FAHSS) to partner with a faculty member in a research project for a full academic year. The program, entering its 13th year, is a model for research collaborations that have a high impact for both undergraduate students and participating faculty members.

Prof. Chris Carlsmith is the former chair of the History Department, and his scholarship focuses on early modern European history. Two Emerging Scholars students worked with him on the project that led to his latest publication, Save Venice Inc.: American Philanthropy and Art Conservation in Italy, 1966-2021. Prof. Johnson-Green is the coordinator of the Music Education program and studies the transformational potential of music across home, school and community. She is in her seventh year mentoring an Emerging Scholar, many of whom worked on her EcoSonic Playground Project.

We are very excited to have both of them join the collaborative team leading the Emerging Scholars program, which this year has expanded to offer opportunities to more students and faculty than ever before. We know their skills, expertise, and wisdom will help us make the program even better, and we are grateful for their commitment and willingness to give of their time in this way.
