As the Head of the School of Graduate Studies, the successful candidate will be responsible for: overseeing and leading the School of Graduate Studies and research-based graduate programs and initiatives within the university; providing strategic direction, fostering academic excellence, and supporting the overall growth and development of the graduate school; and ensuring the academic excellence, growth, and success of graduate programs across campus through effective management and coordination.
This is a 12-month renewable term position with the selected candidate receiving a reduction in teaching load and service expectations along with an annual stipend. This position is open to all faculty, although assistant and associate professors will need a statement of support from their dean if they reach the finalist stage (to ensure that responsibilities of the position do not interfere with promotion).
Candidates must possess the following qualifications:
- Full-time faculty member at UMass Lowell with a research-based doctoral degree from an accredited institution.
- Strong leadership presence, with the ability to inspire, engage, and collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders.
- A strong academic background with a distinguished record of scholarship, research, and teaching.
- A proven track record of successful leadership in an academic setting with experience in budgeting, fundraising, and personnel administration.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering academic excellence and experience developing and implementing graduate programs and curriculum enhancements.
- Demonstrated ability to provide strategic vision and direction and implement policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of and experience with accreditation processes and standards.
- Familiarity with emerging trends and best practices in graduate education and a demonstrated ability to anticipate and respond to the changing landscape of graduate education.
- Strong commitment to supporting student success, diversity, and inclusivity, with experience developing and implementing student support services and programs, and the ability to foster a collaborative and supportive learning environment for graduate students.
- High ethical standards and integrity in all professional endeavors and the ability to navigate complex ethical and legal issues in an academic setting.
