With the conclusion of another academic year behind us filled with achievements and successes from faculty, staff and students across the university, the shift into the less frenetic summer months is always welcome.
Important activities continue throughout the summer at UMass Lowell. Faculty continue to teach, research is ongoing and our GPS, Admissions and Academic Support teams will be at full tilt with enrollment efforts and ramping up for the start of Summer II classes July 5.
For other offices that will be less active on July 3, please help reduce energy costs by taking these small measures before departing for the long weekend:
- Turn off all lights
- Close windows and lower blinds, shades and curtains
- In lab spaces, please close all lab hood sashes not in use
- Shutdown and unplug unused electrical equipment around your workspace, including: computers, speakers, printers, copy machines, desk lights, cell phone, and miscellaneous chargers, microwaves and coffee pots
It’s also critical to find time to get away from the office, refresh and recharge. Vacation time is essential for maintaining strong mental health and it also alleviates stress on the university’s balance sheet. With a challenging budget year ahead, any measures we can take to reduce the institution’s financial liabilities are welcome.
So, in coordination with your supervisors, please do your part this summer and go have fun! You’ve more than earned it.
