April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, a time to draw increased attention to the prevalence of sexual assault and educate individuals and communities about how to prevent it. While we stand up against sexual assault every day, we are hosting some events this month to raise awareness. We hope you’ll join us.
Tuesday, April 25 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Campus Advocates for Prevention Education (CAPE) are hosting the Clothesline Project, a national movement focused on creating a visual reminder of the impact that power-based personal violence has had on our community, turning statistics into shirts. The movement gives a voice to those who have been silenced, sending the message that help is available and there is a path to healing. We invite all members of our campus community to come decorate T-shirts in the University Crossing atrium to raise awareness and show support for survivors. The T-shirts will be displayed throughout the week.
Wednesday, April 26
Please join us in wearing denim to support survivors of sexual assault. Denim Day is all about spreading awareness around sexual violence issues, supporting survivors, and educating ourselves and others. Make a social statement with your fashion statement and wear your jeans on purpose with purpose on Wednesday.
Wednesday, April 26 from 5 to 8 p.m.
The Center for Hope and Healing in the 18th Annual Take Back The Night event where survivors of sexual violence gather to be seen, heard, and believed. It begins at JFK Plaza (50 Arcand Dr., Lowell, MA 01852). From there we will march to Middlesex Community College where there will be space for survivors to speak out. Please join CAPE as we stand with others in the city of Lowell against sexual violence.
Please contact Melissa Wall if you have any questions.
