For accuracy and transparency, University Governance (the Undergraduate Policy Committee, the Graduate Policy & Affairs Committee and the Faculty Senate) has approved changing all instances of Grade Point Averages (GPAs) from one to three digits to four digits on the uml.edu and gps.uml.edu websites. To avoid confusion in admissions and academic advancement, all GPAs will now be carried out to four digits, which mirrors the GPA as listed on a student’s UMass Lowell transcript.

For example, a 3.0 GPA will now be 3.000 and 2.75 GPA will be 2.750. In the past the last digits were implied, but not explicitly stated.

The definitive four-digit GPA avoids confusion surrounding academic standards and creates a shared, common understanding between students, faculty and staff.

Please use this four-digit standard when referring to GPAs.
