Designing Plastic Products for Enhanced Recyclability
With an ever-growing emphasis on realizing a circular economy, it is critical that designers consider recyclability during the product development process. This talk will discuss concepts that plastic part designers can implement to improve the recyclability of pre and post-consumer plastic products. Topics will include choosing assembly and decoration methods, product labeling, designing for granular separation, material selection, and more. While the decision to recycle/dispose of a product ultimately lies with the end user, early consideration of recyclability by the product designer can lead to increased recycling rates.
Learning Objectives:
• Participants will improve their understanding of plastics recycling processes.
• Participants will learn concepts that enhance the recyclability of plastic products.
