When: Thursday, Dec. 1, 2022
Time: 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. ET
This webinar is offered by UMass Lowell in technical partnership with Plastindia International University.
Overview:
Synthetic Fibers and Textiles
A wholesome processing-structure-properties investigation of fibers and its significance to modern advanced materials are discussed. This webinar covers both traditional and emerging fiber spinning methods (ex. solution spinning, melt extrusion, gel-spinning, and electrospinning), post-processing techniques (ex. yarns, weaving), and the resulting end-product and utility. The unique physical and chemical properties of fibers and its application as past and emerging advanced materials will be discussed.
Learning outcomes: (1) Understanding what process and equipment is used to make fibers, (2) underlying physics of fiber fabrication, and 3) post-processing methods to turn them into textile, both traditionally and for emergent applications.
