Abhishek Kumar, Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) Woods Hole, MA will give a talk on Combining fluorescence microscopy with scientific computing to enable biological discoveries
Abstract: Optical imaging is routinely used in biomedical sciences and there is a plethora of techniques to choose from. Among these, confocal and lightsheet microscopy are at the forefront for live imaging and offer good optical sectioning by rejecting out of focus light. I will discuss our efforts to improve these two modalities by reinventing the wheel but taking advantage of technological advancements taking place in computational hardware, scientific computing, detector technology, lens manufacturing etc. Additionally, I will discuss how nanofabrication can play a role in optical microscope characterization and improvements. I will conclude by showing a few applications of these technologies in biological sciences.
