Please join the Lowell Center for Space Science and Technology and the Space Science Lab for their weekly seminar on Thursdays.

On Nov. 10 at 11 a.m. guest speaker, Pablo Reig will present, "Be/X-ray binaries."

"In this talk I review the main properties of Be/X-ray binaries. These binary systems consist of a neutron star orbiting a Be star, that is, a spectral type B star with an equatorial disk formed from material ejected from the star's photosphere. X-rays result from the accretion of material from this circumstellar disk by the neutron star. Virtually all BeXB are X-ray pulsars. I will discuss the observational evidence that supports the presence of truncated and warped disks as well as a method to estimate the critical X-ray luminosity from the observations."
