With our students back on campus – many exploring UMass Lowell and the city for the first time – it’s more important than ever that they experience a vibrant, active community of faculty and staff eager to engage them, address their needs, answer their questions, and validate that UMass Lowell was the right choice for them.
And not just for students. Reconnecting in person is essential for faculty and staff following much-deserved vacations this summer and time away from campus to do research and recharge.
That’s why campus leaders are asking each of you to try to maximize your time on campus, especially in these critical opening weeks of the semester.
The start of the semester will be filled with events, new initiatives, and crucial discussions about UMass Lowell’s strategic position and future. And I know that for so many, these sorts of opportunities are precisely the reason why you’ve chosen higher education and UMass Lowell for your careers.
These are just a handful of the many events in the coming days:
- Today: Convocation – 11 a.m. at the Tsongas Center
- Sept. 1: Women’s Soccer – 7 p.m. at Cushing Field
- Sept. 5: Field Hockey – 1 p.m. at Wicked Blue Field
- Sept. 6: Chancellor's Forum on South Campus - 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Coburn Hall Room 255
- Sept. 7: Chancellor's Forum on North Campus from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Saab ETIC Atrium
- Sept. 8: September in the City Kickoff – 4 p.m. JFK Plaza (City Hall)
While a vibrant and engaging campus is essential for our success, UMass Lowell recognizes that hybrid and flexible work arrangements are important. During our continued discussions and assessment of work arrangements that also maintain a vibrant learning community, our current pilot program on hybrid and flexible work will continue through the calendar year. Any potential changes will follow discussions with our unions and sufficient messaging to our employees.
Thank you for all you do for our students and for each other.
