Across the country, too many days in too many communities are spent struggling with the rage and sadness that comes with rampant, devastating firearm deaths and mass shootings.
Our thoughts are with the families, friends and community members in Uvalde, Buffalo and too many other cities and towns across our nation.
The only path to a new reality for our children and loved ones and all innocents is a collective decision that it is time to demand change.
It’s time to have common sense gun regulations in this country, where people who are a threat to others and themselves cannot purchase a firearm.
It’s time to change the glorification of lethal weapons that too many people harbor in this country.
It’s time for people to speak out against this great crime that is being perpetrated against all of our humanity and value the lives of our children more than an ill-conceived interpretation of the Second Amendment.
It’s time for all people to take action to remove this scourge from life in America.
It’s time to pursue love and respect for others and stop the hatred that has gained far too great a foothold in the hearts and minds of too many people.
Our university community is working toward this end. Let us continue to do all we can to raise our voices up and demand that our leaders take action make our country a safer and better place to live.
And as always, if you are struggling dealing with this or any issue, please don’t do so alone. The university’s Employee Assistance Program has resources that can help.
