After a comprehensive search that produced three finalists for the position of chancellor, I am looking forward to the next stage in the process of bringing strong, innovative leadership to UMass Lowell. This is a critical moment for higher education and UMass Lowell, so choosing the right leader is essential to sustaining the university’s momentum.

In recruiting and identifying these higher education leaders, the search committee has fulfilled its duties. I am deeply grateful to search committee chairs Mary Burns ‘84, and Jerry Colella ‘78, and the entire search committee for their volunteer service on behalf of our university.

I also want to extend my gratitude to the UMass Lowell students, faculty, staff and community stakeholders for the guidance and feedback they offered to the search committee and me throughout this process. The passion, knowledge, and aspiration brought to this conversation demonstrate how much all of you truly care about the university’s success.

As I consider the finalists for a recommendation to the Board of Trustees, I want to reiterate the shared values that I believe we all seek in UMass Lowell’s next leader. I am committed to selecting a leader who is ready to hit the ground running and build partnerships both on campus and across the community.

To that end, I am eager to hear your thoughts about our finalists. Therefore, I have asked each of them to spend a day on campus to meet with members of the UMass Lowell community so that they can learn more about the university and the region, and so that you can learn more about them.
