UMass Lowell will welcome Freeman Hrabowski, president of the University of Maryland Baltimore County and a nationally recognized leader in diversity equity and inclusion, to campus for a DEI discussion with members of the university community at 9 a.m. Monday, April 25 in Moloney Hall in University Crossing.

The one-hour open forum will feature a short “TED-talk” style speech from Hrabowski and will be followed by an audience question and answer period with Hrabowski, Chancellor Jacquie Moloney and UMass President Marty Meehan. The event will also be streamed live.

Hrabowski, who is stepping down as president this spring, will provide feedback on UMass Lowell’s ongoing DEI efforts, led by the university’s Council on Social Justice & Inclusion, as well as speak generally on the future of higher education.

The president of UMBC for 30 years, Hrabowski has led his institution – recently designated a Research 1 institution by the Carnegie Foundation – on 3-decade transformation around research and innovation as well as creating a national model for DEI programs. In 2017 he addressed UMass Lowell graduates as a Commencement speaker and received an honorary degree.
