Please join the ADVANCE Office for Faculty Equity and the WAVES Team on Monday, April 25 at 3 p.m. in the ETIC Atrium for our latest 50/50 Lecture. Our invited speaker is Aileen Huang-Saad, is an Associate Professor in Bioengineering at Northeastern University and the Director of Life Sciences and Engineering Programs at The Roux Institute.

Huang-Saad’s current research areas are entrepreneurship, innovation, and transforming higher education. She is funded by the NSF to explore the influence of the microenvironment of entrepreneurship education on minoritized populations, entrepreneurial ecosystems, and fostering graduate student professional development. Huang-Saad has a 14-year history of bringing about organizational change in higher education, leveraging evidence-based practices at the University of Michigan. She is also Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Springer’s Biomedical Engineering and Division Chair for the American Society of Engineering Education’s Biomedical Engineering Division.

Her presentation is titled “Higher Education – Where do we go from here?” Huang-Saad’s lecture is hosted by UML Assistant Teaching Professor Yanfen Li from Biomedical Engineering Department. The lecture will be followed by a Q & A session.

The 50/50 Lecture Series is a unique format geared at both promoting a notable scientist’s work and highlighting the varied paths that lead to successful STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) careers. Half of the speaker’s time will be allotted to her technical, educational, and research interests, and the other half will be devoted to her career path, detailing, for example, challenges overcome or the influence of mentors. The 50/50 lectures are designed to inspire established and emerging STEM professionals to persevere not only by considering the example set by leaders in STEM but by looking at their own career holistically. Graduate students are also welcome!
