  • Farhad Pourkamali, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Computer Science, University of Massachusetts Lowell

Brief Abstract:
Alzheimer’s disease, a neurodegenerative disorder that currently affects over 30 million people worldwide, has become the most common form of dementia and a major public health challenge. Recent advancements in deep learning, such as convolutional neural networks (CNN) and generative adversarial networks (GAN), have been proved very successful in many fields, especially in images. In this work, deep learning is applied to i) tackle or improve low quality and low resolution of positron emission tomography (PET) images, ii) measure a spatio-temporal trajectory misfolded tau protein, and iii) classify sleep stages from wearable device data.

All interested students and faculty members are invited to attend the online defense via remote access.
