The Francis College of Engineering, Department of Plastics Engineering, invites you to attend a doctoral dissertation defense by Michael Johannes Zielonka on “Characterization and Optimization of Melt Temperature Homogeneity in Injection Molding.”
Ph.D. Candidate: Michael Johannes Zielonka
Defense Date: Wednesday, April 13, 2022
Time: 3 to 5 p.m. EST
Location: Ball Hall 202
Committee Members:
- Stephen P. Johnston (Co-Chair/Co-Advisor), Professor, Department of Plastics Engineering, UMass Lowell
- David O. Kazmer (Co-Chair/Co-Advisor), Professor, Department of Plastic Engineering, UMass Lowell
- Carol M.F. Barry, Professor & Chair, Department of Plastics Engineering, UMass Lowell
Brief Abstract:
Melt temperature is a key factor to produce high-quality parts. A newly instrumented nozzle is presented that incorporates an intrusive thermocouple wire with a rapid response to measure the melt temperature. The research models and characterizes the transient melt temperature response during injection mold filling with profiling of the screw speed and back pressure.
All interested students and faculty members are invited to attend the defense.
