The Francis College of Engineering by the University of Massachusetts Lowell, Department of Mechanical Engineering, invites you to attend a Master’s thesis defense by Henning Hoene on “Two-Dimensional, Transient Modelling of a Non-Aqueous Vanadium Redox Flow Battery.”
MSE Candidate: Henning Hoene
Defense Date: Thursday, April 14, 2022
Time: 9 to 10:30 a.m. EST
Location: This will be a virtual defense via Zoom. Those interested in attending should contact the Henning_hoene@student.uml.edu and committee advisor, Xinfang_Jin@uml.edu, at least 24 hours prior to the defense to request access to the meeting.
Committee Chair (Advisor): Xinfang Jin, Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Massachusetts Lowell
Committee Members:
- Ertan Agar, Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Massachusetts Lowell
- Fuqiang Liu, Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Massachusetts Lowell
Brief Abstract:
The thesis defense will consist of a brief description on renewable energy storages and why redox flow batteries are a viable alternative. After, a detailed description will be given for the mathematical equations used to model the non-aqueous redox flow battery (NRFB). Following the model description will be the verification of the model by comparing a charge/discharge voltage profile against experimental data. Lastly, model coupling from calculated distributions will be analyzed in combination with a sensitivity analysis on fitted parameters.
All interested students and faculty members are invited to attend the online defense via remote access.
