Please join the WAVES Team Friday, April 8 at 3 p.m. Lydon 110 for our latest 50/50 Lecture.
Our invited speaker is Nicola H. Perry, Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is an internationally recognized researcher in electrochemistry, specially focusing on functional ceramics, oxides and thin film for energy conversion and storage applications. Her research has been recognized with a NSF CAREER Award, DOE Early Career Award, JSPS Kakehni Awards, IUMRS Award for Encouragement of Research, J. Bruce Wagner, Jr. Award from the Electrochemical Society, and the Edward C. Henry Award of the American Ceramic Society.
Her presentation is titled “Toward a Carbon-Neutral Energy Future: Electrochemical Materials and Research Development.” Perry’s lecture is hosted by UML Assistant Professor Xinfang Jin from Mechanical Engineering Department. The lecture will be followed by a Q & A session.
The 50/50 Lecture Series is a unique format geared at both promoting a notable scientist’s work and highlighting the varied paths that lead to successful STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) careers. Half of the speaker’s time will be allotted to her technical, educational, and research interests, and the other half will be devoted to her career path, detailing, for example, challenges overcome or the influence of mentors. The 50/50 lectures are designed to inspire established and emerging STEM professionals to persevere not only by considering the example set by leaders in STEM but by looking at their own career holistically. Graduate students are welcome!
