Physics colloquium will be held on Wednesday, March 30 from 4 to 5 p.m. This colloquium will be hybrid. To join by Zoom contact Joanne Gagnon-Ketchen for the link. If you would like to attend in person the location will be in Olney 218 .

Professor Ronald Sroka, Head of the Laser-Research Laboratory at LIFE-Centre at the University of Munich. OPTICA Travelling Lecturer will be giving a talk on "Laser Lithotripsy: A Never Ending Development."

Abstract: This lecture gives an introduction on the application of high power laser pulses to perform laser induced stone fragmentation. Based on clinical and experimental investigations different fragmentation mechanisms are described. New investigations show the impact of laser parameter on fragmentation and dusting capabilities as well as on the observed propulsion. Optical technologies with potential of feedback to reduced side effects will be shown.

Bio: Ronald Sroka is the head of the Laser-Research Laboratory at LIFE-Centre at the University of Munich. Since 1986, he is engaged in development of fluorescence diagnosis, photodynamic therapy and laser surgery focusing on clinical implementation of laser applications. Professor Sroka is the General Secretary of the German Society of Laser Medicine, SPIE-fellow, OPTICA-senior member, Editor in Chief of TBIO and Associate Editor of BOEx. He is also Adjunct-Professor and serves on the Advisory Board of Institute of Photomedicine at Tongji University Shanghai, China.
