Committee Chair (Advisor): Sukesh Aghara, Ph.D., Associate Dean, Francis College of Engineering
Committee Members:
- Valmor de Almeida, Ph.D. Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering
- Peter Miraglia, Ph.D., faculty of Chemical Engineering
Abstract:
Zirconium-89 (Zr-89) and its production and purification methods are studied in this research in collaboration with Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and the University of Massachusetts, Lowell (UMass Lowell) to develop a robust solution target method for Zr-89 production by proton bombardment of aqueous solutions. This radionuclide has received increasing attention as it has suitable physical and chemical properties which can be used in a developing positron emission tomography (PET) application, immunoPET. In addition, the clinical possibilities of 89Zr-labeled radiopharmaceuticals depend on the growth of supply for 89Zr to meet the increasing demand.
All interested students and faculty members are invited to attend the online defense via remote access.
