Interested in raising the profile of women in Lowell and the Merrimack Valley who are notable enough to be included on Wikipedia but are missing from the internet encyclopedia?

Join our in-person ‘Edit-a-thon’ from 1 to 4 p.m., March 24, on the Mezzanine at O’Leary Library.

Research and write an entry for one of more than 110 women we’ve identified as good candidates for an entry on Wikipedia — or come with an idea of your own. If you’re looking for a smaller task, you can improve one of 28 active pages we’ve identified.

Mentors will be on hand to help you find sources and edit content and snacks and prizes will be available to our the editors! No experience required.

Our event works in concert with the WikiProject Women in Red, which was founded in 2015 and hopes to address Wikipedia’s systemic bias by increasing the percentage of biographies devoted to women. Today barely 1 in 5 biographies on the site are written about women. It is sponsored at UML by the Center for Women and Work, the Library, and the Women's Studies and History Departments.
