The Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching Advisory Working Group is seeking applications from faculty interested in the role of our first CELT Faculty in Residence. Applicants must be full-time faculty at the rank of associate or full, and may be either tenured, teaching or clinical faculty. The successful application will demonstrate your ability to lead fellow faculty, your experience improving teaching and learning, and your creative thinking about how to combine those traits in a project that will benefit your fellow faculty and our students. UMass Lowell Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching Faculty in Residence Job Description

Overview:

The Faculty in Residence at the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching is a 24-month position that reports to the Vice Provost of Academic Affairs. In consultation with the Center’s Advisory Working Group, the faculty lead oversees the creation of a collaborative, welcoming community that supports the Center’s mission of fostering thoughtful, inclusive teaching by providing resources and tools to UMass Lowell’s community of educators. The Faculty in Residence engages faculty to develop their knowledge and skills for effective instruction, and sets a tone for teaching excellence and innovation across disciplines at UMass Lowell.

Responsibilities, timeline and compensation:

  • Two-year term, May 2022-April 2024
  • Preliminary planning in consultation with the Center’s Advisory Working Group during Summer 2022
  • Annual stipend of $10,000; total stipend = $20,000
  • Design, oversee and implement a yearly and or biannual mini grant:
    • Develop theme/logic model
    • Invite and select participants
    • Host planning meetings
    • Provide ongoing support for faculty cohort
    • Guide assessment administered by participants
  • Lead or co-lead one teaching-focused workshop per semester
  • Support development of the Center’s website resources on their chosen theme

Requirements:

  • Full-time UMass Lowell faculty member at the level of associate or full professor or teaching/clinical professor, with demonstrated ability to work across disciplines to address faculty interests and needs
  • Working knowledge of pedagogical theory, curricular design, and innovative teaching strategies
  • Collaborative approach to teaching, learning and mentorship
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, especially team building capacity, and ability to motivate others
  • Experience with assessment of students and programs
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
