It is recommended that people who first got the Pfizer or Moderna shots get boosters at least 6 months after initial vaccination. Those who got a Johnson & Johnson shot are encouraged to get a booster at least 2 months after initial vaccination.
You do not need ID or health insurance to get a booster shot. Just use the state’s Vaxfinder tool and select from any of more than 1,000 locations where the vaccine is offered – with a number in Lowell (including the “Old Elks” location at 40 Old Ferry Road) and nearby towns.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently announced you’re able to choose a Pfizer or Moderna booster regardless of which brand you received originally.
As you may know, COVID-19 vaccine was recently allowed for children ages 5 and older, while the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have recommended boosters for vaccinated adults at greater risk of serious infection due to age, health status and other circumstances.
Vaccinations and booster shots are a safe, effective way to limit the spread of COVID-19. Especially as the holidays approach and many of us make plans to gather, getting a booster is an important step to protect your health as well as that of your family, friends and our greater campus community. With the recent expansion for children ages 5 and up, almost the whole family can be protected — and protect others — by getting vaccinated.
The university encourages everyone to get a booster when it is appropriate to do so. And be sure to speak to your primary care provider if you have any questions about getting a booster.
