The university became aware last night, Oct. 21, of a generalized threat of violence made online against UMass Lowell on a social media platform.

UMass Lowell police immediately began investigating, quickly identified and interviewed the student responsible for posting the information and determined this was a poorly conceived joke and there was no threat to the campus.

UMass Lowell has no tolerance for threats of violence made by members of the university community, regardless of the intent, and all such instances are reviewed by police for possible criminal charges and referred to the university’s student conduct process.
