Organizations’ workforce agendas no longer revolve solely around hiring employees to perform work along linear career paths. Workforces today comprise a range of internal and external contributors including employees, contractors, gig workers, professional service providers, application developers, crowdsourced contributors, and others. Organizations recognize that they need to adopt an integrated approach to effectively manage these complex workforces. However, significant challenges remain and best practices are scarce to address strategic and operational issues associated with workforces that span organizational boundaries. In this webinar, we will discuss the definition and characteristics of workforce ecosystems, structures that consist of interdependent actors from within and outside an organization. We will also consider the implications of workforce ecosystems for management practices and policy considerations. This webinar will draw from a multi-year research program led by MIT Sloan Management Review in conjunction with Deloitte Consulting focused on the Future of the Workforce.
