Under the direction of the Dean of Engineering, this position provides day-to-day oversight and strategic development of the college’s graduate programs and faculty research, including interdisciplinary initiatives in these areas. As part of the college’s senior leadership team, the position also provides input and support to the dean in areas involving faculty and personnel, strategic planning & development, administrative management, and other functions necessary for the college’s growth, development, and effective operation.

The associate dean will provide leadership and management related to the operation and development of graduate programs within the college. Specific duties include:

  • Working with departments and interdisciplinary groups to manage the development, approval, and deployment of new graduate degree and certificate programs within the college;
  • Serving as the primary point of contact in dean’s office for graduate program directors/coordinators;
  • Managing initiatives related to oversight of existing graduate programs, including functions related to enrollment (i.e., marketing, recruiting, and retention), student success, resource allocation, and accreditation, as well as the closure of programs as necessary;
  • Direct web page development and management for the promotion of the research and graduate programs across the college. Liaison with Marketing and Web Offices for the web pages.
  • Serving as college’s liaison with Vice Provost for Innovation & Workforce Development and with Graduate and Professional Studies on matters related to graduate programs.
  • Provide leadership and management related to the operation and ongoing development of the research enterprise within the College. Specific duties include:
  • Promoting and facilitating interdisciplinary collaboration among faculty, including liaison with research centers based in college;
  • Developing and managing college-based research support infrastructure (e.g. grant development, administration, shared resource deployment);
  • Coordinating and managing faculty development efforts aimed at promoting research productivity within college;
  • Managing seed funding, conference travel support, and other College initiatives promoting faculty and student research;
  • Serving as college’s liaison with Vice Chancellor for Research & Economic Development, Vice Chancellor for Research & Innovation;
  • Developing and maintaining external agency and institutional partnerships in service to the College’s research mission.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

Education: Ph.D.
Experience: A tenured professor at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. Experience in securing research funds from external sources and advising graduate students and/or post-doctoral associates. Strong communication skills, ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality, problem-solving skills, ability to work with diverse groups


Additional Considerations:

Management and administrative experience preferred. Professional experience with project management, strategic planning, program development, budget development & administration, and external relations
