The WAVES team invites all faculty members to participate in a biannual survey that is part of an NSF-funded ADVANCE initiative called Making WAVES (Women Academics Valued and Engaged in STEM) - an initiative designed to address subtle forms of bias that many of us across the entire university encounter in our work.

WAVES is committed to creating a productive and inclusive environment for all faculty at UMass Lowell. Toward that end, we ask you to participate in this research survey, that assesses faculty members’ perceptions of, and experiences within, their academic work environment. The information gathered from this study will be used to inform interventions to improve our academic work environment at UMass Lowell now and in the future. Upon completion of the survey, you can choose to enter a drawing to win $500 of Professional Development Funds provided by the Provost’s office.

Please consider submitting your responses by Friday August 6. The team realizes many of you are taking the opportunity to travel after an extremely difficult year due to the pandemic. If you would like to participate, but cannot complete the survey by August 6, please contact a team member.

The survey will take about 25 minutes to complete. The team understands that faculty are not under contract in the summer and your participation is completely voluntary, confidential and anonymous. You can choose to withdraw at any point without penalty. No identifying information will be collected. Every effort has been made to ensure that your responses are anonymous and remain confidential. Only aggregated data will be reported. This research has been approved by the Institutional Review Board at UMass Lowell.
