With the requirement of wearing face masks during the pandemic, have you noticed that your safety glasses are fogging up? Are you struggling with working safely and seeing through your safety glasses? If so, EHS recommends purchasing anti-fog safety glasses or reaching out to EHS to obtain the anti-fog spray to put on your current safety glasses. (EHS doesn’t endorse any specific brand of anti-fog safety glasses or anti fog-spray.)

The anti-fog spray will be located at the Olney Hall stockroom or contact Kathi_Lamond@uml.edu to request her to stop by your lab to spray your safety glasses with this anti-fog spray.

Anti-fog lenses or coatings work by preventing water vapor from forming tiny droplets which we see as fog on our safety glasses. Hydrophobic coatings repel water from condensing on the lenses of your safety glasses. It spreads the moisture as it hits the lens preventing fogging of the lens. Hydrophilic coatings act like a sponge by absorbing the moisture. The coating can hold a large amount of moisture and the moisture is released at the edges of the lenses.
