As the university’s on-campus population increases, so too is UMass Lowell’s COVID-19 surveillance testing program. Students living in the Residence Halls are required to be tested weekly and any other student who will be on campus regularly for any reason is strongly encouraged to join the weekly program and take the non-invasive test to help prevent and contain the spread of the disease among campus community members.

However, it is important to remember that even after a negative COVID-19 test, any student who feels ill — whether they have COVID-19 symptoms or other symptoms — should not attend classes or other activities on campus.

Every day before coming to campus or leaving your residence hall room, all students should complete the daily symptom checklist. Students experiencing any of the listed COVID-19 symptoms should:

  • Stay home or in their residence hall room,
  • Residential students or those attending courses on campus should call the COVID line at 978-934-COV2 (2682) or email Student_SymptomReporting@uml.edu to talk to a health care professional.
  • Students residing off campus and taking virtual/online classes should contact a health care professional.

Staying home or in your residence hall room when ill is just as critical as other university-COVID risk mitigation efforts, including wearing face coverings on campus, socially distancing, washing hands regularly and regularly wiping down shared spaces.

The campuswide commitment to reducing risk is why our campus was so successful last semester and with more people on campus this spring, it is even more important that we all remain committed to our shared responsibility to keep our campus and community safe for ourselves and for each other.
