Fellowships for Incoming Graduate Students


These are fellowships for incoming graduate students. These awards are determined by the Dean of the College the student is applying to and are awarded at the time of the student's acceptance into the University. All inquiries should be directed to Graduate Coordinators in your particular program of interest.

PSM Graduate Fellowship
UMass Lowell is proud to award the PSM Graduate Fellowship to a select number of our most academically qualified admitted master’s students. 

Award: Annual award of $5000 towards tuition and mandatory fees.

  • Recipients must have residency classification of  In-State (Massachusetts Resident).
  • The award is for one academic year.  $2500 for the fall semester and $2500 for the spring semester. 
  • Remain in good academic standing with a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher. 
  • Students who hold NIOSH scholarships, teaching assistant or research assistant appointments are not eligible for this fellowship.
  • Students must enroll is at least 9 credits per semester to receive the award. 

Provost’s Graduate Fellowship
UMass Lowell is proud to award the Provost’s Graduate Fellowship to a select number of our most academically qualified admitted international, New England Regional, proximity and out-of-state graduate students. 

Award: Annual award of $4000 for tuition and mandatory fees. 

  • Recipients must be have residency classification out-of-state,international, New England Regional, or proximity. 
  • The award is for one academic year.  $2000 for the fall semester and $2000 for the spring semester. 
  • Students must enroll is at least 9 credits per semester to receive the award. 
  • Students who hold NIOSH scholarships, teaching assistant or research assistant appointments are not eligible for this fellowship. 
  • Remain in good academic standing with a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher. 

Dean's Graduate Fellowship
This scholarship is limited to a select number of our admitted graduate students to attract highly talented master’s degree students. 

Award: Annual award of $2000 towards tuition and mandatory fees 

  • Recipients must be have residency classification of  In-State (Massachusetts resident)
  • The award is for one academic year.  $1000 for the fall semester and $1000 for the spring semester. 
  • Students must enroll is at least 9 credits per semester to receive the award. 
  • Students who hold NIOSH scholarships, teaching assistant or research assistant appointments are not eligible for this fellowship. 
  • Remain in good academic standing with a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher. 

University Fellowships
UMass Lowell is proud to award the University Fellowships to a very limited number of our most academically qualified incoming doctoral students.   This award is chosen by the faculty and Dean of the College based on applicants outstanding qualifications. 

Award: $4000 towards tuition and mandatory fees. 
  • Renewal Requirement is up to four years contingent on satisfactory academic standing in the doctoral program.
