You Become a Caretaker

"You are clearly you mother's daughter," your father writes upon hearing that you are spending your free time nursing sick immigrants and factory workers. Your grandmother was a midwife and your mother is often called to nurse sick neighbors and relatives, so it is no surprise that caregiving comes naturally to you. What is surprising, however, is how much you like nursing work.

A friend tells you about a Mrs. Mott who is a homeopathic doctor in Lowell. You go and see her, and she advises you to go to the homeopathic college in Boston. You're not sure if homeopathic medicine really works. Maybe it would be better to see if you could get a nursing job in the Corporation Hospital.
