Story Advice

Get some advice from you friend Jonathan.

Paige, I'm your friend, so I'm going to give you some good advice. I've been here awhile and I even went to some rallies when I first came. But the protests just make the agents and overseers angry and set them even more firmly in their ways. You will hurt your chances to advance in the factory and you don't do any good for the workers' cause. .

If you really want to help, come with me to the new Lowell Dispensary in the evenings after work. We give free medicine and help the doctors who take care of the mill girls who can't afford to pay. You know how much help you were to Sarah Merrill when she was sick for several weeks. You are such a good nurse and so kind. The Benevolent Society needs people to go out among the poor, the new Irish immigrants especially, and help them. Some of them do not even know that they can get temporary aid from Lowell's Overseers of the Poor. So help yourself by not protesting; help others instead.
