Preparing students for a Health(y) Career

The Pre-Med Living-Learning Community is designed for First-Year students who are preparing for a career in a Health profession. With a focus on helping students with career preparation, satisfying admissions requirements, choosing the right major, and finding clinical experience opportunities, this LLC empowers students to explore various career paths, while connecting them with practitioners, alumni, faculty and staff to assist in career preparation. A passionate Faculty Advisor provides support and academic guidance to students as they navigate and prepare for a career within the health and/or medical sciences. This LLC is sponsored by the Kennedy College of Sciences.

As a result of living in the Pre-Med Living-Learning Community, students will have the opportunity to…

  • Develop meaningful relationships through engaging with faculty, staff, alumni and peers that will promote professional and academic success.
  • Utilize campus resources to assist in career development (e.g., Career Services, Research Experience with Faculty, Campus EMS, Student Clubs/Organizations, Professional Organizations, etc.).
  • Identify resources that will assist in building application packages for Medical Schools, in addition to understanding requirements and recent changes of the MCAT (e.g., Preparing for the new exam, Medical School interviews, etc…).
  • Begin to develop helping skills through experiential learning opportunities within the UMass Lowell, local and regional communities (e.g., Service Opportunities that provide Human Contact and the development of Empathy, Active Listening, etc.).
  • Explore various aspects of Health Professions, and other related Medical Fields, that will assist with career development.
