Room Selection

Welcome back!

Students must go through the room selection process every year to remain on campus, which usually occurs between February and May. Please look to further information once the process nears. During this time you will have the many different opportunities to stay in your current location (except locations designated as "displaced") or move to a different location on campus.  Carefully review the Room Selection Informational Packet which can be found online or in the Office of Residence Life. One will also be emailed directly to students as the selection process approaches.

Staying on Campus in 3 Easy Steps!

Step 1: Complete the housing contract on the Online Housing Gateway along with preferences.

Step 2: The online housing contract is accompanied by a payment screen for a $200 deposit. Deposits can be paid by credit/debit card (with a credit card logo). Visa, Master Card and Discover are the accepted forms of credit card. The $200 deposit is non-refundable for those who will remain UMass Lowell students. If you are transferring or withdrawing from the University the deposit will be refunded to you with 2-4 weeks of your cancellation or applied to an outstanding balance.

Step 3: You will be assigned a lottery number the within the first weeks. You can use this lottery number for the process of your choice below:

  • Go through Room Selection
  • Pull-in Roommate (s)

Contract Deadline

All current residents and commuters needed to return their contract and deposit on or before March 31, 2015.

Those who complete their contractual obligations after this deadline will go onto our Wait-list. Students on the wait-list will then be assigned based on availability, if any.

Lottery Number

Every returning resident and commuter that applies for housing on or before the deadline is assigned a Lottery number. Lottery numbers are used for University Suites and Riverview Suites selection process and general room selection process. Lottery numbers are randomly assigned by class year in the following order:

  • Seniors/Graduate Students
  • Juniors
  • Sophomores
  • Upperclass commuters (juniors/sophomores)
  • Freshmen
  • All other commuters

For example, if 100 seniors/graduate students were to apply for housing, they'd be randomly assigned numbers 1-100. If 400 juniors also applied they'd be assigned 101-500 and so forth.

Lottery Schedule to be posted in near future.
