River Hawk Rising Scholars Application


River Hawk Rising Scholars is a cohort based scholar initiative designed to support students as they successfully navigate the UMass Lowell community. Students will receive individualized attention geared towards the different stages of their college career. Scholars will be connected with an Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) coach who will serve as a resource and key point of contact. Students will meet weekly with their OMA coach. River Hawk Rising Scholars will also benefit from developing relationships with their peers in the cohort. Students will attend workshops and community building program activities together.

Application Instructions:

  1. Complete and sign the River Hawk Rising application.
  2. Submit your completed application and essay questions by email to Elsie Otero: Early consideration deadline is August 31, 2018 and the final deadline is September 7, 2018.

Short Essay Questions:
On a separate page please provide answers to the following questions in no more than 500 words:
  • What are you looking to gain from the River Hawk Rising program?
  • What support have you received in high school/college that would be beneficial to you at UMass Lowell?
  • Please indicate any areas you would like extra support in or would like to like gain more knowledge? (Examples include: test taking, time management, interacting with professors, career exploration, etc.)
Participant Expectations:
If you are accepted into the River Hawk Rising program you agree to:
  • Strive for a GPA of 3.0 and above
  • Meet weekly/biweekly with OMA staff coach
  • Attend all required workshops
  • Attend River Hawk Rising cohort community building activities
