The following forms become active in late July for the Fall semester:
A graduating student will be selected for each ceremony, morning and afternoon, to make a three minute presentation representing the participating graduates. Any student who will have fulfilled degree requirements and is participating in the ceremony may apply. Students who completed their degree requirements in December may also apply. The application and presentation will be reviewed by the Speaker Selection Committee. The committee will choose five to six finalists and invite those students to deliver their three minute speech before the committee. Those selected must be available to present their speech at Commencement. All speeches must be original works of the student. Speeches submitted to the Committee are done so with the understanding that they may be printed on the Commencement website.
The Chancellor’s Medal for Student Service is awarded to members of the graduating senior class who have made outstanding contributions to the University (clubs and organizations, campus programs, leadership position, or other activities that improve the quality of life for students at the University of Massachusetts Lowell) during their undergraduate studies in day or online and continuing education programs. While the applicant's entire history will be taken into account, volunteer efforts will be given special consideration in the selection process.
The Chancellor’s Medal for Community Service is awarded to University students who have made significant contributions to the public good (volunteer efforts which benefit the greater Lowell community, other communities, or other organizations) and thus have brought credit to themselves, the university and the larger community. Graduating students enrolled in undergraduate, graduate, online and professional studies programs are eligible.
