• The awards listed below have been created to recognize the extraordinary efforts of members of the Division of Student Affairs and University Events. Each award has it owns criteria and seeks to emphasize one of the values which is considered important in this Division. All full and part time professional members of the Division are eligible for nomination with the exception of those serving as Directors, Deans or above. 
    Nominations have been extended until April 21, 2020. Award winners will be presented at the End of the Year Division Celebration. Nominations may come from anyone within the Division and cross-departmental nominations are encouraged. Self-nominations will be also accepted.
    The deadline is has been extended until April 21, 2020 and the form will be open until noon.

    Collaboration Award

    The Collaborative Excellence Award recognizes a Student Affairs and University Events staff member or members that have successfully partnered with colleagues outside of the Division of Student Affairs and University Events to design and implement programs, activities, research and/or services that enrich the UMass Lowell experience for staff and/or students, further student learning, advance social justice, and/or optimize resources.

    Exceptional Early Careerist

    The Exceptional Early Careerist Award recognizes a Division of Student Affairs and University Events staff member who, though early in their career (5 years or less), has demonstrated the dedication and commitment to the ideals, ethics, and professionalism required to pursue a career in student affairs. This person serves as a model that demonstrates what it means to grow as a professional at the University of Massachusetts Lowell through their enthusiasm, commitment to the tenets of student affairs, mastery of position, professional relationship building and problem solving.

    Graduate Excellence Award

    The Graduate Excellence Award recognizes a Student Affairs and University Events graduate intern or graduate fellow who has made significant contributions to their office, department, and/or division by working to build community, support the educational mission of the University, and provide innovative contributions to their area. This person is seen as resourceful and hardworking, while upholding the mission of their department, division , and institution.

    Innovation Award

    The Innovation Award recognizes a Student Affairs and University Events staff member or members that have generated one or more creative, novel, and sustainable initiatives within the last year to enhance our work, challenge assumptions, foster organizational health, and promote student scholarship, engagement, community building and success.

    Notable Service Award

    The Notable Service Award recognizes a Student Affairs and University Events staff member who has made significant contributions to their office or department by consistently providing outstanding customer service both internally and externally. This person serves as a model that demonstrates what it means to take pride in the University of Massachusetts Lowell by showing attention to detail in all facets of their performance and exceeding expectations.

    Outstanding Achievement Award 

    Outstanding Achievement Award recognizes a Student Affairs and University Events staff member who has exhibited outstanding achievement and excellence in one or more of the following areas:
    • Leadership in a national/international professional organization
    • Administration of an assessment instrument & conducted relevant research benefiting the student experience. 
    • Significant positive impact on student development, access, recruitment or retention.
    • Excellence in mentoring students or staff in areas that enhance their future professional goals. 

    Social Justice Award

    The Social Justice Award highlights a Student Affairs and University Events staff member who works to impact our world through education, advocacy and action on social justice issues.   The work of the nominee is in the forefront of elevating issues regarding diversity and social justice and this person actively works to expand their knowledge to build a more inclusive and engaged campus community. This award recognizes an individual who serves as an example to others through a commitment to diversity and social justice beyond the scope of one’s professional responsibilities. This person serves as a model that demonstrates courage, compassion, and leadership and while working to eliminate discrimination, oppression, and injustice at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.

    True River Hawk Award

    The True River Hawk Spirit Award recognizes a Student Affairs and University Events staff member that has best exemplified the true “Rowdy” spirit of the University, Division, and Community. The nominee demonstrated this through helping others, celebrating differences, giving back, and celebrating this spirit on a day to day basis. This person serves as a model that demonstrates what it means to take pride in the University of Massachusetts Lowell.

    Unsung Hero Award

    The Unsung Hero Award recognizes a Student Affairs and University Events staff member who works quietly behind the scenes for the good of the Division and UMass Lowell, and though not publicly celebrated, demonstrates leadership through dedication and service. This person serves as a model that demonstrates what it means to work diligently above and beyond their everyday responsibilities at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
