Implement your final steps towards your post-graduation plan.

Look at the questions below followed by resources that will help you answer them.

Plan Your Final Steps

What else do you want to accomplish or experience before you graduate? What are your top priorities after you graduate? Do you have a plan? Who have you connected with during college and how can you strengthen those relationships?

  • Schedule an appointment with a career counselor to discuss your unique situation, and to begin mapping out a plan that makes sense for you.
  • Continue to build experience and seek leadership opportunities where you can.
  • Complete a Job Search Plan, using provided samples (pdf) as a guide.
  • Continue connecting with people on LinkedIn, following employers and identifying second-degree connections.
  • Conduct at least one informational interview with someone working in your target field or occupation; complete and upload the Informational Interview Worksheet.
  • Send a follow-up “thank you” letter to the person with whom you did your informational interview, using our sample thank-you letters as a guide.
  • Attend conferences or professional association meetings.
  • Register for and attend Dine & Dress for Success.
  • Begin applying for graduate education programs during first semester of senior year, if applicable.

Implement Your Search

  • Are your strengths and skills evident on your resume, cover letter, and LinkedIn?
  • Update your resume and have it reviewed in an appointment or during drop-in hours. Replace original Handshake resume with updated document.
  • Draft a cover letter (tailored to a specific position) using our sample cover letters packet as a guide, and have it reviewed during drop-in hours.
  • Complete a Job Search Plan, using provided samples (pdf) as a guide; review with a career counselor.
  • Participate in at least one workshop, hosted by the Career & Co-op Center.
  • Work on your elevator pitch.
  • Participate in on-campus recruiting events whenever you can.
  •  Attend at least one career fair.
  • Create several Accomplishment Statements, using our sample PARK statements as a guide.
  • Participate in a practice interview (in-person or via InterviewStream).
  • Confirm that you have a minimum of three professional references; fine-tune your reference document, using our sample format as a guide.
  • Begin applying for post-graduation employment.

  • Attend events such as Career Corner Workshops (Topics include Resumes, Job Search, Interviews and LinkedIn), Dine and Dress, Art of Networking workshop, Career Fairs, Career Fair Prep workshops and Employer Information Sessions.
