Evolution and Ecology of Microbes
Research Interests
A main focus of my work is to understand the connections between fundamental ideas from ecological and evolutionary theory and solutions to human health and welfare problems. I address this in my research and how I work with students. My group works on the ecology and evolution of microbes, in particular ones associated with human disease. Currently our lab focuses on bacteria in the genus Pseudomonas from human homes and from the people and pets living in them. We combine studies of the distributions of these organism, studies of their patterns of phenotypic variability, and investigations of the genomic underpinnings of these phenotypes, and the evolutionary pressures that help mold them.
